QUARRYMANS HOTEL: DESCHUTES AND STONE EVENT

Came into town yesterday (well, Thursday last week) to attend the “meet the brewer” night. Quarryman’s hotel was hosting an evening with brewers Ryan from DESCHUTES and Joel From STONE , two American breweries. It was a good night, not as many attending as I might have expected but , but maybe as much as the room could hold. There were three beers from each brewery highlighted on the night

The DESCHUTES BEER : MIRROR POND PALE ALE 5 %.  FRESHLY SQUEEZED IPA 76.7%. BLACK BUTTE(r) PORTER 5.2%
The STONE BEER :  RIPPER PALE ALE  5.7%. DAY SLAYER IPL 7.4% ENCORE ANNIVERSARY PORTER  8%

The Mirror Pond Pale and the Dayslayer where my preferred choices of this list .

I always think it would be a good idea if there was some printed information about the beers. if nothing else. it would save me a bit of messing around.

After trying the six beers, Stone brought out a taste of a couple of special beers not listed, I don’t recall the names of them, the where bigger, higher alcohol brews more in line with Belgian strong ales or barley wine style beers, and to my tastes, definitely worth waiting for. Very nice drops

I was able to corner both brewers during the evening sun managed to express my views whether they liked it or not. Truth to tell they both seemed to agree up to a point, as far as the confines of their position in the industry allowed anyway.

I would like to have seen a bit of food other than pretzels but I suppose the plan was for me to buy something.

If or when another interesting event comes up at this pub I will probably try and get to it. There doesn’t seem to be as many beer events crop up as often lately, or I have just not been aware of them, possibly because GABS is on in Sydney in a couple of weeks.

I have manage to take some pretty crappy photos once again, I get a it to involved in the events and don’t take enough time with, hows that for an excuse
