FROM UNICORN TO THE LOCAL

FIRST STEPS

UNICORN HOTEL  Had a bit of a run to the city yesterday and started off at the Unicorn to have a go at the lunch time menu. My daughter had the Mary’s burger  and I had what they called a sandwich ( see pictures). I gather it was a nice burger but I don’t know if it was much better than any other pub burger. The sandwich was a bit novel, all probably American designed tucker.  While the Unicorn claims not to be a full blown craft beer place it had a reasonable beer list. The beers we had where MERCHANTS GOLDEN ALE ; FIXATION IPA; WILLIE THE BOATMAN RUBI BROWN ALE. Three pretty decent beers. Nice and clean place, plenty of room and not bad music.

Stuck ar noses in to the VILLAGE INN but nothing took our interest so we moved on.

We crossed the road to the ARTS HOTEL aka the ROSE THISTLE AND SHAMROCK also aka THE THREE WEEDS and had a YOUNG HENRY’S ROT FIFER LAGER and a MODUS OPERANDI FORMER TENANT RED IPA two very expensive schooners so  we ambled off to :-

THE LOCAL  TAPHOUSE, not on our list of pubs for the day but turned out to be a good decision. we had a NOMAD SMOKED SAISON JESTER KING ; STOMPING GROUND IPA: RENAISSANCE DARTH SAISON; THORNBRIDGE IIPA and a taste of MOUNTAIN GOAT BARLEY WINE; MISMATCH IMPERIAL POMEGRANATE SOUR and a Dr’s ORDERS SACCHAROPHOBIC SALTED CARAMEL BROWN ALE. It  turned out to be a good side trip to the Local, very nice beers and I was able to have a chat with the beer guy behind the bar.

Next stage tomorrow’s post
