BELHAVEN TWISTED THISTLE I.P.A 5.6% : As far as I am concerned this is what an IPA should taste like. Creamy with dark tasting malts, nice noise, with just a hint of bitters . Notes from the Belhaven brewery.Modern, balanced, hop-forward IPA Late hopped with Cascade and Hersbrucker to give a nose-full of citrus grapefruit hops. Citrussy hop aroma develops into a mouthwatering juiciness and finishes with a refreshingly bitter bite. 100% Scottish barley malt in the mash gives a big, satisfying, full-bodied beer. I don’t know about hop forward as I would have thought the malts are the main player here and that is a good thing as far as I am concerned.
SHEPHERD NEAME DOUBLE STOUT 5.2%; BIG BUGGER STOUT, Starts with a heavy plummy pudding aroma, translates to the taste with a hint of dryness, Creamy smooth mouthfeel , some chocolate taste and at the risk of being a bit wanky, some mint, more malt(molasses) than hops. “Notes from the Shepherds Neame Brewery. “This magnificent example of a classic double stout delivers a velvety-smooth palate of dry, burnt flavours – complemented by roast, cocoa and coffee notes. Black, creamy and delicious; it is a Shepherd Neame masterpiece.”
I would really like to have the chance to try both these beers out of a keg.
