ILLAWARRA BREWHOUSE; CROWN BAR AND AN UNWELCOME INN
Moving back in time from Australia day, I had to take the grandkids to the beach so spent a couple of days down south. The first night was spent in Wollongong so I was able to make a bit of visit to the Illawarra Brewhouse in the Win Stadium. A pretty good venue because the menu was ok and we where able to feed the kids, it was busy the night we where there, maybe the trivia night brought out the crowds. I didn’t get to the brewery itself even though it is pretty close. Between the two of us child minders, we had middies of:- ILLAWARRA BREWING ENGLISH MILD 3.5% (malty; nice beer); ILLAWARRA BREWING PALE 5.1% (not a pale; nice one); ILLAWARRA BLOND WIT (I got citrus maybe more lemon though I am not sure that my notes line up with the information on the brewery sit with this one ; ILLAWARA BREWING RUST AMBER 5.2 (hoppy; dry) YENDA HELL 4.4% (almost a non beer) ILLAWARRA BREWING RESIN DOG 5.5 (more hops with this beer); ILLAWARRA BREWING SUMMER ALE 4.7% (a bit of hoppyness about this beer). I also had a lager in my notes but no name so I might have meant the Kolsch. There where a few we didn’t try and it seems as though that there had been a tap change so it could be some where not available. I reckon this place is well worth a visit, plenty of beers to choose from, the food is good, it is a nice location and is children friendly even though that is only something I look for when I am trusted to mind them otherwise they should stay clear of the bat.
Speaking of this we first thought about ducking into the Illawarra Hotel for a quick quencher earlier in the day but where told that children could only come into this hotel if they went in to the bistro area and then only if they had a meal, this coming from a hotel that was, apart from staff, and me, totally empty. As far as I am concerned it can stay empty forever. Obviously this place will never change its name to “Welcome Inn” So we went to the MR CROWN BAR and had a MATILDA BAY LAZY YAK PALE ALE 4.2% (not a bad pale, I haven’t had this before and it was so damned hot it would have been good no mater what) and three fizzy red drinks for the kids.
