YOUNG HENRY BREWERY NEWTOWN

YOUNG HENRY BREWERY NEWTOWN
I visited the Young Henry Brewery in Newtown on Monday and met the brewers and tried a couple of the beers. I tasted Black Enmore; Black Hart; American Brown and another beer I forget the name of but it was a more happy beer
I liked all the beer particularly the Newcastle Brown and the Black Enmore.
I was especially interested that they hoped to be able to produce a couple of cask beers and I will try and make sure that I can be there when it is available for tasting. I was able to have a fair old chat with them about brewing a hand pumped cask beer as a home brew. I still haven’t got on top of all the details yet but will make this one of my first retirement projects and will continue to try and find out as much as I can about the process until then.
I had a bit of a hard time finding the brewery even though it was just past the King and Enmore Street intersection.
While I was trekking about the place I called in to the Carlisle Castle Hotel for a lemon squash, this looked like a nice pub, very quit but very early when I was there. While I don’t think the beers available where all that inspired it looked as though it had a very nice bistro and wine list.
I also went to the Union Hotel in Newtown or St Peters, I am not sure which suburb it is actually in. They had eighteen beers on tap, most of them craft brews. I had a Mountain Goat Steam Ale and a Monteiths Winter Ale and also tasted a Holgates Temptress Choc Porter and a Vale Experimental Stout. The Vale Stout and the Choc Porter where the stand beers for me; unfortunately I couldn’t research further as I was going to be driving later. If you are going here for a feed check the internet site first because they don’t sell food on Mondays and Tuesdays I think it is.
I have been going to the Station Bar in Katoomba on Saturday afternoons the last few weeks and lately they have had 4 Pines Northern Brown which unfortunately has finished; Two Birds Sunset Ale; Stone and Wood Jasper; Bruer Bright, The Station Bar seems to be running through the kegs quite quickly so it will be interesting to see what they have next.
